San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Sean Pettit (37), after a trial by jury for breaking into a Dogpatch home and stealing keys and personal belongings while the residents were present. Mr. Pettit was convicted of first-degree burglary (PC 459) with a hot prowl allegation (PC 667.5(c)(21)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Pettit accountable and delivers justice to the victims. My office will continue to work closely with the San Francisco Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to ensure perpetrators face consequences, as we work collaboratively to make our neighborhoods safer.”
According to evidence and other testimony presented at trial, on September 3, 2024, the victims, husband and wife, were woken to the sound of broken glass and a neighbor calling. Inside their living room one of the victims saw Mr. Pettit rifling through their property. She began shouting at him to leave and was joined by her husband who was outside talking to the neighbor who had called. Mr. Pettit eventually left the home with several stolen items including keys and other personal belongings of the residents. San Francisco Police arrested Mr. Pettit about one block away with the stolen items from the house found inside his pockets.
The case against Mr. Pettit was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney En-Ta Tu, with assistance from paralegals Sara Wong and Andres Hernandez. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Pettit based on the careful investigation of the San Francisco Police Department’s Bayview Station.
“People should expect to be and to feel safe in their home,” said Assistant District Attorney En-Ta Tu. “No one should wake up in the morning and find an unwelcomed stranger in their home. I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for their swift response to the scene which led to the strong evidence in this case and making sure the residents were safe.”
Mr. Pettit is currently in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for February 28, 2025.
