MAN CONVICTED OF MAKING CRIMINAL THREATS AND CHILD ENDANGERMENT IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT

San Francisco, CA – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Hugo Urbano De Leon Diaz (30), after a trial by jury for threatening to kill the victim in a domestic violence incident. Mr. De Leon Diaz was convicted of criminal threats (PC 422), child endangerment (PC 273(a)), and brandishing a deadly weapon (PC 417(a)(1)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. De Leon Diaz accountable and sends a clear message that domestic violence is unacceptable, and perpetrators will face consequences. I hope this verdict helps the survivor as she continues to heal from this trauma.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on May 19, 2024, at approximately 8:20 PM, Mr. De Leon Diaz grabbed a kitchen knife, approximately 10 inches long, and threatened to kill the victim. Fearing for her life, she hid in another room and called 9-1-1. While hiding, the victim heard Mr. De Leon Diaz yelling obscenities and threats while banging on the walls and doors. Several witnesses in the apartment saw Mr. De Leon Diaz including a four-year-old child. When police arrived, Mr. De Leon Diaz was taken into custody without incident.

The case against Mr. De Leon Diaz was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John Robles, with assistance from paralegals Lena Ku and Loretta Luu, the subpoena unit, IT support Noaeh Pinaire. Victim Advocate Alma Garcia worked closely with the victim throughout the pendency of this case. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. De Leon Diaz based on the San Francisco Police Department’s investigation and witness testimony.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office will fight relentlessly for victims and innocent children, ensuring they have the justice and protection they deserve. We are committed to keeping families safe and ensuring justice prevails.”

Mr. De Leon Diaz is currently out of custody. Sentencing is scheduled for February 28, 2025.
