San Francisco, CA –San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Daniel Ridenour (36), after a trial by jury for violating the terms of a domestic violence restraining order. Mr. Ridenour was convicted of violating a court order (PC 273.6(a)).
“I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Compliance with restraining orders is not optional. The jury’s verdict represents our office’s commitment to taking violations of restraining orders seriously as they are often the precursor to future violence.”
According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on January 12, 2025, at approximately 1:58 AM, San Francisco police officers responded to a domestic violence restraining order violation at a residence on Congo Street. Officers contacted the protected parties, who reported that Mr. Ridenour was seen outside their home carrying a flashlight and looking inside the residence, violating a domestic violence restraining order that requires him to stay at least 100 yards away from both the residence and the protected parties. At approximately 4:02 AM, Mr. Ridenour returned to the residence, prompting the protected parties to call the police again. This time, when officers arrived, they found him at the scene. When approached, he looked at officers and stated, “I’m here.” The defendant was then taken into custody.
The following morning, a neighbor reviewed surveillance footage and saw Mr. Ridenour attempting to open her door multiple times between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. Knowing he was not supposed to be there, she also called the police.
The case against Mr. Ridenour was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John Robles with assistance from District Attorney Investigators, paralegals Lena Ku and Loretta Luu, and the subpoena unit. Victim Advocate Oscar Gonzalez worked closely with the protected parties through the pendency of this case. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Ridenour based on the San Francisco Police Department’s quick response, investigation and assistance.
“Court orders exist for a reason – to protect victims and uphold the rule of law,” said Assistant District Attorney John Robles. When someone blatantly disregards a restraining order, they are not just violating a piece of paper; they are violating the safety and personal space of those it is meant to protect. No one should have to live in fear of someone who has already been ordered to stay away. We take these violations seriously and will hold offenders accountable to ensure that victims can feel safe in their own homes.”
Mr. Ridenour is currently out of custody. Sentencing is scheduled for March 21, 2025.
