OAKLAND MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH NARCOTICS TRAFFICKING IN TENDERLOIN

San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Pedro Vargas-Medina (25) of Oakland, has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the alleged possession and sale of controlled substances. He was arraigned on July 17, 2024, and pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied all allegations.  Mr. Vargas-Medina is charged with possession for sale of a controlled substance, specifically fentanyl (H&S 11351) and possession for sale of cocaine base (H&S 1351.5). Additionally, the criminal complaint alleges that Mr. Vargas-Medina committed these felonies while released from custody on bail and on his own recognizance (PC 12022.1(b)).

“I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for their investigation and making an arrest in this case,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.  “My office will do everything in our power to hold drug dealers accountable.  Drug dealers should expect to be identified, arrested and prosecuted in San Francisco.”

According to court records, Mr. Vargas-Medina was subject to five pending no-bail warrants as well as a search condition. On July 12, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, SFPD officers executed a search warrant at his residence in Oakland and followed him from his residence to San Francisco via BART. Upon arrival in San Francisco, Mr. Vargas-Medina was searched and arrested on Golden Gate Avenue. During the search, officers allegedly discovered Mr. Vargas-Medina in possession of 62.7 grams of fentanyl, 0.5 grams of cocaine base, and a digital scale.

The next court date for Mr. Vargas-Medina is July 30, 2024, for the preliminary hearing in this matter. The District Attorney’s Office moved to have him detained pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses. The court granted the motion and set no bail. Mr. Vargas-Medina is currently in custody.
