San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that Randall Evans (43) of San Francisco has been charged in connection to a homicide that occurred at the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue and Hyde Street in the Tenderloin on July 21, 2023. He was arraigned on August 24, 2023, and pled not guilty to all charges and allegations. Mr. Evans is charged with murder (PC 187(a)) and possession of a firearm by a felon (PC 29800(a)(1)). The criminal complaint against Mr. Evans also lists numerous allegations and aggravating factors including the personal and intentional use of a firearm (PC 12022.53(d)).
“I offer my condolences to the victim’s friends and family and my unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring that the suspect is held accountable for this senseless crime,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “I continue to stand by the Tenderloin community and will do everything in my power to ensure there are consequences in this case and that we send the strongest message possible that violence will not be tolerated and that this neighborhood, like all neighborhoods, should be free from violence.”
Mr. Evans is alleged to have shot and killed a 31-year-old male victim on July 21, 2023. According to San Francisco Police, officers responded to the area of Golden Gate Avenue and Hyde Street at approximately 6:11PM. At the scene they located an adult make victim suffering from a gunshot wound, rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene for life-threatening injuries. Despite the lifesaving efforts of emergency responders, the victim was declared dead at the scene. Mr. Evans was arrested by San Francisco Police on August 21, 2023.
Mr. Evans’ next court date is September 8, 2023, to set a preliminary hearing date. The court set no bail and he is in custody at this time. The court will rule on the People’s motion to detain at the preliminary hearing. If convicted of all charges and all allegations are found to be true, he faces 75 years to life in State in Prison.
