San Francisco, CA – District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that Denayaha Duree (23), and Xavier Garcia (20), have been charged in connection to a commercial burglary in Union Square. Ms. Duree and Mr. Garcia were arraigned on December 11, 2024, and pleaded not guilty to all charges. Ms. Duree is also charged one count of receiving or buying stolen property (PC 496(a)). The criminal complaint also alleges that both Ms. Duree and Mr. Garcia were out on bail when the alleged crimes were committed (PC 12022.1(b)).
“I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for their thorough investigation in this case,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “My office takes these cases seriously and will do everything we can to ensure there are consequences and accountability. To those who think it is ok to come to San Francisco and brazenly ram into a business in the middle of the night and ransack it, you are mistaken. You will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.”
According to court records, on October 11, 2024, at approximately 2:42 AM, multiple vehicles proceeded to the Dior at 185 Post Street in San Francisco. One of the vehicles began to back into the metal gate enclosing the entrance to the store. Once the vehicle successfully destroyed the gate and doors, allowing entry into the store, at least ten individuals, all masked and some gloved, entered the store and began quickly ransacking and stealing items. The group was in and out of the store in under one minute and successfully stole 66 bags valued at over $290,000.00 and caused about $250,000.00 in damage.
Both Ms. Duree and Mr. Garcia’s next court date is December 24, 2024, for the preliminary hearing in this matter. The District Attorney’s Office moved to detain both Ms. Duree and Mr. Garcia pending trial. The court set no bail taking into consideration public safety other pending matters before the San Francisco Superior Court and another county.
