San Francisco, CA – Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that William Ohlson (33), of Reno, Nevada, was charged in connection to the torture and killing of a kitten.
Mr. Ohlson is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., at the Hall of Justice.
Mr. Ohlson is charged with killing, maiming or abusing an animal (PC 597(a)), overdrive, overwork or overload of an animal (PC 597(b)) and resisting, obstructing, delaying a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)).
According to San Francisco Police and San Francisco Animal Care and Control on July 1, 2026, Mr. Ohlson allegedly entered a bank ATM vestibule on the 1800 block of Market Street around 2 a.m. with a small kitten and proceeded to violently torture the animal to death. Mr. Ohlson allegedly fled the scene with the dead kitten.
On July 14, 2026, officers served a search warrant at a hotel on the 100 block of Fell Street where officers had tracked Mr. Ohlson. Officers were advised by a Real Time Investigations Center (RTIC) Drone as First Responder (DFR) operator that the suspect had fled the room onto the roof of an adjacent room. SFPD officers requested the assistance of the San Francisco Fire Department due to the suspect’s location, and members of the SFFD responded with a truck and ladder to assist SFPD in safely apprehending Mr. Ohlson on the roof.
